Missing the Gift

Happy Monday everyone. Today we are starting off the week with a special book spotlight with Traci Wooden-Carlisle’s book “Missing the Gift”. She provided a sneak peek below, so please check it out. Happy reading and if you love it so far make sure to show your love by purchasing a copy.

She unlocked and opened her car door. She was about to slip in when he spoke.
“I have to confess. I had an ulterior motive for wanting to walk you to your car.”
She turned towards him but refused to look up at him. “Oh?”
“I wanted to know if you were an experienced rider, or if you will need me to stick close to you tomorrow?”
She glanced up, surprised by his social misstep, and caught the teasing light in his eyes.
“I can hold my own,” She leaned back against the car, both to put some distance between them, and to show her figure in a complimentary light.
She watched him glance down briefly then step back, piquing her curiosity.
“Why do you do that?”
“Play at teasing when you are uncomfortable.”
Play at teasing?
She was momentarily at a loss for words, but didn’t drop her act.
“Play at teasing?” She lowered her lashes and leaned closer. Why would you think I was teasing at all?”
“Because the passion never touches your eyes.” His words turned her blood to ice. “I wasn’t lying. I think you are intelligent and beautiful, but I also think you are hiding behind that beauty, in hopes that men won’t truly look at you. Why?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said lowering her lashes even further, so he couldn’t see the fear he evoked.
“It’s okay. Just know that while others’ eyes go where you guide them, I look for the truth.” He leaned only slightly closer. “And I am still searching.” He finished in a whisper.
Maddison crossed her arms in front of her. She didn’t know if it was the night air or his words that chilled her.
“Goodnight Maddison,” Ryan said, backing away from the door.
Rendered speechless, Maddison slipped into the driver’s seat and closed the door quickly. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard a light tapping at the window.
She turned on the car and lowed the window a couple of inches.
“Don’t forget your seatbelt. Shauna would never forgive me if something happened to you.”
She strapped herself in, put the car in gear and drove out of the parking lot without giving him another glance. She held tight to the steering wheel all the way to her destination because she was afraid her shaking hands would cause her to veer off the road.
She tried to push his words to the back of her mind until she could safely concentrate on their meaning, and pray to God she was wrong. Yes. She would definitely be spending some time in prayer.
